What Changed in Suraj’s Final Attempt? A Journey Every SSB Aspirant Must Read

Coming from UP and completing his schooling in Delhi, Suraj grew up around driven, ambitious individuals. He always admired people who lived with purpose — people who challenged themselves, inspired others, and carried an adventurous spirit. Somewhere deep down, he knew he wanted to be around such people, and that’s how the dream of joining the armed forces began. But dreams rarely come easy. Suraj faced 1 screen out and 5 conference outs before the moment he finally heard the words he had been waiting for —
“Recommended for CDS IMA 160.”

“The day I stopped doubting my own story was the day everything changed.”

The Turning Point: Realising Hard Work Needs the Right Direction

Suraj had always been hardworking. But SSB taught him that effort alone isn’t enough — effort aligned in the right direction is what creates results.

He recalls how frustrating it felt when he didn’t understand what exactly was going wrong. Every attempt left him with more questions than answers.

That changed when he joined R2R.

For the first time, he found mentors who gave him:

  • precise explanations, not generic advice
  • logical reasons behind every concept
  • personalised feedback, not one-size-fits-all tips
  • clarity of what actually matters in SSB

Suraj says, “Whenever I had the smallest doubt, I always got a clear and logical explanation. That made all the difference.”

Knowing Yourself: The Foundation of SSB Success

One piece of advice from Shashank Sir stayed with him throughout:
“You don’t need someone else’s perfect answer. You need faith that you are capable enough.”
Like many aspirants, Suraj too tried finding “better stories” from others because he felt his own life wasn’t interesting enough. But that mindset itself was the obstacle.

R2R helped him reshape that thinking.

They helped him refine his own story, understand himself better, and present the most authentic version of who he was —
not someone else’s script, but his own truth sharpened through structured feedback.
This authenticity later became his strength.

What Changed in His Recommended Attempt? One Word: Calmness

In the attempt that finally got him recommended, Suraj didn’t go with tension or fear.

He went with:

  • zero nervousness
  • complete faith in his preparation
  • belief that he could handle whatever came his way

He says, “Nervousness ruins the whole game. The moment you trust yourself, everything becomes easier.”

This inner calmness was the biggest difference between his earlier attempts and the one that changed his life.

His Hardest Lesson: Don’t Dwell on Past Tasks

Suraj shares a very important insight that many aspirants overlook:

“At SSB, once a task is over, it’s over. Don’t carry its weight to the next day.”

He learned that thinking about:

  • Did I do enough?
  • Could it have been better?
  • What if they judged me for that mistake?

…only destroys the present task.

His advice is simple:

“Five days of SSB require five days of fresh focus. Leave introspection for home.”

Suraj’s Message for Every Aspirant

Suraj strongly believes that:

  • You need a teacher you trust
  • You must follow the guidance diligently
  • You must back yourself with unshakeable confidence
  • You must know who you really are

Because in SSB, you’re not judged on someone else’s story —
you’re judged on how honestly and confidently you present your own.

Why His Journey Matters

Suraj’s story is a reminder that:

  • Failure is not the end
  • Guidance matters
  • Introspection matters
  • Calmness matters
  • Self-belief matters the most

R2R simply helped him bring those qualities out — the qualities that were always within him.
